Panaji, Aug 30: The state legislative assembly has decided to request the state's supreme court lawyer to obtain Karnataka government's affidavit in the supreme court which has allegedly mentioned that `Goa is a part of Karnataka.'
The issue was raised through calling attention motion by BJP legislator Damodar Naik which stated that Karnataka government in supreme court of India has mentioned `Goa as a part of Karnataka.'
The Karnataka government had filed the affidavit in connection with the application filed by Goa Konkani Rajya Ekikaran Manch seeking to merge bordering Karnataka areas into Goa.
"Goa's economy is largely dependent on its trade links with its bordering Karnataka. This respondent (Karnataka) reserves the right to file the full history of Goa to show that Goa is a part of Karnataka," the affidavit mentions in one of its paragraph.
Replying to the motion in the house today, the chief minister said that there is no specific information available with the Goa government, except that news item has appeared in the local newspaper.
"On behalf of Goa government, it is decided to entrust the matter to Ms A Subhashini, advocate of supreme court to obtain the copy of affidavit, if any, so that the Goa government will be in a position to file a counter affidavit in the supreme court," the CM added.
