Belagavi: More than selfie - Photo taken by man while casting vote goes viral

Daijiworld Media Network – Belagavi (RJP)

Belagavi, May 13: Taking selfies soon after casting their votes was common on the Assembly Election Day on Saturday, May 13. But an anonymous voter went a step further. He clicked the photo of him casting his vote using mobile phone. Subsequently he posted the photo in WhatsApp which went viral.

Using mobile phones inside the polling booth is banned.

A close look at the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) reveals that the picture was taken in one of the polling stations in Athani in Belagavi district, where, sitting MLA Laxman Savadi is seeking re-election.

Girish Kedarappa Butali from JD(S) and Mahesh Iranagouda Kumathalli are other two constants.

Look at the candidates list. So many 'Dummy' candidates with similar looking symbols of main political parties to confuse voters thereby to cut the vote of main candidates.

Though the person in the picture voted for Congress I fear result from EVM will be only going to BJP.

Gujarat’s Chief Electoral Officer ‘admits’ some mismatch in EVMs and VVPAT slips in Gujarat. There were mismatch between EVM and VVPAT slips on 4 out of 182 seats. so more than 2% mismatch. 2% vote share is questionable. that is 6 lakhs votes.
Accepting the premises set by EC that 1 booth per constituency is representative sample. number of booths = 50128. questionable booths = 4*50128/182 = 1102 EC accepted that there were 4 mismatch. 1102 possible mismatched booth in 182 constituency. so approximately 6 mismatched booth per constituency. One EVM can store around 3800 votes. assuming on average EVM were half filled, so total number of questionable votes per seat = 11400.

In Gujarat, there were over 16 seats, where the victory margins were less than 3,000 votes. A vote transfer of even half a percent in a constituency of two lakh voters could result in a victory of a candidate who was originally trailing by 2000 votes. Such minimalistic vote transfer could go undetected because the winner could always use power to block any efforts for rigorous verifications.

In Tripura BJP Chief Minister in election canvassing on record said even outgoing CM Manik Sarkar vote will be transferred to BJP.

Under People's representative Act voters right can't be rejected just for carrying mobile phone which is more necessary for reporting the malfunction or fraud in EVM. This also debunks the claims of Election commison of India their machine is full proof.

Banning cell phones? Why can't we all vote using our cell phones? It will be cost effective, non tempered, less man power.....and so on. But demerits must be analysed.

It is illegal to publically demonstrate your voting. Long back then Kerala CM E K Nayanar got into trouble by showing his voting on TV> He can be booked under the law because its a secret ballot
