Panaji, Sep 9: State leader of opposition Manohar Parrikar charged chief minister Digambar Kamat of covering up the illegal mining in the state.
Parrikar, who raised the issue of illegal mining during the recently concluded state legislative assembly session, said that the chief minister has submitted two reports on the allegations leveled by him on the floors of the assembly.
"I have gone through both the reports and they are attempted to cover up on a big fraud," the leader of opposition said.
The BJP leader participating in the discussion on the floor of the house had pointed out to the illegal mining activity in Sanguem taluka and also had alleged that royalty to the tune of Rs 25 to Rs 30 crore is lost due to illegitimate mining practices.
"Both the reports (submitted by CM) are filed by those people against whom I have levelled charges of connivance," Parrikar said.
The leader of opposition said that knowingly or unknowingly the director of mines is becoming partner to the illegalities committed by mines' department, which is held by chief minister himself.
"I don't know whether Kamat is involved in illegal mining but for sure he is trying to cover up the illegalities. So needle of suspicion points towards him," Parrikar said.
The BJP leader said that he would be writing to the chief minister on the issue and will subsequently be exposing the documents furnished by Kamat on the floor of the assembly to the media, to prove how they are nothing but an attempt to cover up.
