Some issues with Congress over portfolio allocation, says H D Kumaraswamy

Bengaluru, May 26 (PTI): Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today said there are some "issues" on portfolio allocation with his party's coalition partner Congress but it is not something that will pull down the government.

He also said the expansion of his Cabinet would take place once state Congress leaders get an approval from their high command.

"..Portfolios have not been allocated. There are some issues regarding portfolios, but it is not an issue that will pull down the government...," Kumaraswamy told reporters here.

Responding to questions on portfolio allocation and demand for a farm loan waiver, he said, "I will try not to take up an issue as a prestige issue and try to solve a problem.. Otherwise I will see. I will not stick to this post, leaving my self esteem."

Parleys began between the Congress and the JD(S) on the issue of Cabinet expansion soon after Kumaraswamy proved his three-day-old government's majority on the floor of the Assembly yesterday.

Karnataka Congress leaders today left for New Delhi by a chartered plane to discuss with the high command the issues relating to Cabinet expansion and portfolio allocation.

According to sources, Kumaraswamy had met former chief minister and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister Parameshwara and Congress general secretary in-charge of Karnataka K C Venugopal before they left for Delhi.

The chief minister also clarified that he would not be going to Delhi to meet Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi. "State Congress leaders have to get approval from their central leadership, that's the reason they are going to Delhi today. Once they come back cabinet expansion will happen smoothly," he said.

It has already been decided that Congress would have 22 ministers and JDS 12 in the new cabinet.

We must all appreciate that it is a Coalition Government. The concerned parties need to discuss, sacrifice and serve the people putting all difference behind and setting a good example. KANNADIGAS have that spirit and they can sort out portfolios in a professional manner. Nothing comes easy; it needs a bargain. So the legislators who won their seats have to sacrifice something to keep them united in the interest of people. otherwise people will not vote for them again. This is the need of the hour.

There will be issues of course. Its obvious. I met a Cong MLA who won, wont name him though. He has been working day and night for the welfare of his constituency. He and his party slogged day in day out campaigning, spending sleepless nights, travelling , meeting people. He garnered support, organized funds for the party.

Now despite winning by a good margin due to his efforts. For 10 days he was shunted from resort to resort with his cell phone confiscated. No touch with his family, Then he was sent on a chartered flight to Delhi to meet the Cong high command. After all this hard work and fiasco, he is being side lined just and not considered for any post , just to pacify the Cong high command who do not want to piss off HDK. I would not be surprised if he changes sides.

These problems are common in forming the government with an alliance with other party with regard to allocation of portfolios and selection of ministers as well.

"Adige biddaru moogu mele" is our Congress, If BJP has an edge so far is because of Congress, who only say minority majority but what they have done?? My Christian friends are of the opinion that they only take our name but nothing we get, like BPL card, preferences etc. NO. So now why they cannot adjust with the other secular government and move on?? When you have to serve people of state, why bother about position/ministry?? Do not dissappoint our state you Congress!

It’s better if JDS come out from Congress shade and form coalition govement with BJP. Congress greedy leaders are only concerned about portfolio and not about development. It’s best time for Congress mukth Karnataka.

HD Kumaraswamy's straight forward talks are praiseworthy.
He and his Father are not power hungry.
They are concerned for their voters. They know who their voters are.
Therefore this tie up. I hope good sense will prevail in INC also.

Dear Valerian…somehow people can agree with you for current situation of Karnataka but pls delete your second sentence as “He and his Father are not power hungry”. Just with 17 MPs’ his father bargained for PM post and now Kumaranna with just 37 MLAs’ hijacked Karnataka people for CM post
