Bengaluru, Jun 7: Chief Minister (CM) H D Kumaraswamy on Tuesday said that he intends to meet the lady constable who saved an abandoned newborn baby from starving.
On June 6, H D Kumaraswamy tweeted that he read a media report on lady constable Archana who breastfed an orphan newborn baby. "I was moved by her humanitarian deed and I want to meet the constable and appreciate her,"
CM's intention to meet has surprised Archana D S, the woman police constable who saved the baby. “It is surprising that my little work has garnered so much attention. I have no words to express my gratitude for the people who have shown so much love. I don’t know how I will react. The news of his wishing to meet me has made me both excited and nervous. I was shocked looking at the abandoned baby. I nursed the child as I have done my own. It is just a small act of humanity," she responded.
We police personnel are also human beings and we are compassionate and have emotions too. I still don’t understand how anyone can abandon a newborn on the streets. The baby is now under the care of Shishu Mandir. Except for a minor bruise, there were no major injuries on the baby. The baby is doing well and is stable," she added.
It may be recalled that police constable Archana, attached to the Electronic City police station and also a mother of three-month old baby had nursed the baby when it was brought to her station.
The baby was rescued by the Electronics City police after a shopkeeper informed them about the newborn baby stuffed in a plastic bag and abandoned under a bush near a house under-construction in Celebrity Layout, Doddathoguru. The baby was first found by a rag picker who immediately informed the shopkeeper. The baby was rescued by assistant sub-inspector Nagesh R who immediately rushed to the spot. The baby was then taken to a nearby hospital and the doctors treated him free of cost. The baby was then brought to the station and was handed over to the lady constable. Archana, on seeing the baby weak and motionless, breastfed and saved from starvation.
The assistant sub-inspector bought new clothes for the baby and the baby was named after chief minister Kumaraswamy. "It is the government’s baby now, and we decided to name him Kumaraswamy as it would be under the care of the government," he was quoted by media.
