Bengaluru, Jun 9: Polling for three teachers’ constituencies and three graduates’ constituencies was held on Friday January 8. 70 candidates have entered the fray for these six seats and their fates will be decided when counting of votes, takes place on Monday June 12.

Out of these constituencies, highest poll percentage of 91.84 was recorded in southeast teachers’ constituency. Lowest votes were polled in the city, with Bengaluru graduates constituency clocking 64.11 percent votes. south and southwest teachers constituencies recorded polling percentage of 79.91 and 80.45 respectively. The polling percentage of southwest graduates constituency stood at 70.04, while that of northeast, 70.13.

Polling was conducted from 7 am to 5 pm. The process went on peacefully except for stray incidents of complaints about missing names. The voting was sluggish till 11 am on account of cloudy weather and rains. The polling went on briskly since afternoon and by4 pm, most of the voters had exercised their franchises.

It is learnt that lures, sumptuous meals etc were offered to voters for this election too. A political activist boasted that in a south teachers’ constituency at Mysuru, the voters were provided with feast in the house of a leader. In addition, covers containing Rs 500 and a pen were handed over to each of them, he added. Some teachers also claimed that silver plates and wrist watches were gifted to voters in some cases.
