Bengaluru: Improvement in quality of education - over 28,000 schools face closure

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Jul 6: The budget presented on behalf of the coalition government in the state has come up with a number of programmes. However, the fear that about 28,847 government schools might face closure because of the enforcement of quality concept is getting deep-rooted.

The budget proposes to merge 28,847 government and aided schools where the number of students is very less, with 8,530 government schools. The government has stated that government and aided schools with shortage of students located within a radius of one kilometre would be merged with nearby schools. As such, schools with less
number of students may have to be closed in the coming days.

A sum of Rs 150 crore has been earmarked this time for repair of primary, high school and PU college buildings being run by the government. Rs 5 crore is being used to provide basic facilities to state level training centres of Bharat Scouts and Guides and also to strengthen training centres.

From next year onward, English medium classes will be introduced in government primary schools along with Kannada medium classes to attract students. At first, on experimental basis, English medium classes would be opened in a thousand schools.

At the same time, 4,100 Anganwadi centres presently run by women and child welfare department would be turned into child-friendly centres and shifted to the premises of government primary schools subject to availability of space. Subject to feasibility, in phases, LKG and UKG classes will be started in government schools. To exercise control over the actual attendance of teachers and children in 48,000 government schools in the state, biometric machines would be introduced. This scheme is proposed to be implemented in the next three years. For the current year, a sum of Rs 5 crore is being provided for this purpose.

There are many success stories in educational system from South Korea, Singapore and Finland. The quality of education starts with teachers. If the teachers are paid well in the government school and job security rather than contractual it might help improve the educational standard.

But these days in India students seems like labourers carrying heavy loads. Do they need so many books at once? Can there little brains takes stress? Do our school and college campus really need students unions?

The Karnataka government need to think beyond closer of these 28,000 schools. Our students resources but we need to identify their ability. Every student is unique in this nature. If one is brilliant in Mathematics not necessary that intelligent.
I request the Karnataka education minister form a team of advisors. Welcome the suggestion and advices from the common people. Treat the ideas as resource. Make feel the students schools learning and play school.
I request the government to reconsider to different approach to avoid closer of the schools.
    Jai Karnataka

If schools are on the verge of closing, then partly teachers and also medium of education. Change it to English medium and keep Kannada as mandatory subject. I speak Tulu and Konkani even though not taught in school.

Hope the following things definitely happen
    1. No Job losses for the 28000+ school staff. Guaranteed job protection.
    2. Ensure schools arent too far away for the kids.
    3. Make sure the closed down school buildings are not sold off to third party without calling proper tenders/auctions. What better if the schools could be turned into vocational schools or sports schools or even public libraries. India needs it, Karnataka should lead in it.

The people who pay taxes in Karnataka might have a right to make such demands.

But, sir, by being in London, to you pay any taxes that end up for karnataka Government's expenses.

If not, perhaps, a request might be more appropriate?

I surprised to see some of our readers have little knowledge about the tax in India.... People think that Indian government is not charging any taxes to Non resident Indian..... for the information I will tell that may be on Non resident indian rupees account interest earned is not taxable and his NRO account interest is taxable by 30% but if Non resident comes to india if he travels in bus, train , aeroplane than Government is charging taxes.
If non resident is transferring his any property than he has to pay same tax like resident Indian.
If he is purchasing any grocery than the shopowner will not ask for his identity that he is resident Indian or Non resident Indian and he will charge him all the taxes as per Indian.
Why people are thinking that non resident Indian is not contributing his taxes for Government treasury??
