Rise in crime against women: BJP MP blames internet, smartphones

Bhopal, Jul 7 (PTI): Young people getting easy access to obscene content through the Internet and smartphones is leading to the rise in crime against women, a BJP MP from Madhya Pradesh has said.

“Due to easy access to the Internet and smartphones, youngsters can see obscene content on phones. This results in a negative impact on innocent minds and leads to perversity,” Khandwa MP Nandkumar Singh Chauhan said at Damoh yesterday.

The former state BJP chief was answering a reporter’s question about the increase in crime against women in Madhya Pradesh. Newspapers have reported cases where watching obscene content on mobile phones led to the commission of the crime, the MP said.

When asked why the Cyber Cell of police is not acting against circulation of obscene videos or pictures, Chauhan said police cannot check each and every phone. Chauhan had stirred up a controversy earlier this year when he claimed Pakistan’s hand in the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl at Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir.

Gang-rape of an eight-year-old girl at Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh on June 26 caused widespread outrage. Half a dozen cases of rape of minor girls have been reported in the state in the last two weeks. Reacting to Chauhan’s statement, state Congress spokesperson Manak Agrawal said the rise in crime against women was the failure of the state government, and the Internet and smartphone had nothing to do with it.

“The government has failed to instill fear among criminals. Police do not take action and there is no control over law and order situation. This has resulted in the rise in crime against women,” Agrawal said.

Meanwhile, women Congress workers today staged a demonstration at the residence of chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan here against the increase in the number of rape cases.

well well - Blaming technology for the failure of Govt. The whole world is using technology and please track how many rapes of minor occur compared to India. Its just the mind set . All comes down to education / family upbringing / friends circle and back up from political parties for reduced punishment. Re introduce capital punishment sure it will make a difference.

Ok, right, now it is the Internet and Smartphones that rapes women, not BJP/BD thugs. This technology is available worldwide but the rape is not alarmingly increased worldwide. It might be the Yoga effect on Bhakths. This idiot MP must be having the same problem like all bhakths, cow dung filled skull.

“Internet and satellite communication had existed in the days of Mahabharata,” said BJP's Biplab Kumar Deb, “How else could Sanjaya give a detailed account and description to the blind king about the battle of Kurukshetra? It means internet was there; the satellites and that technology was there in this country at that time" ...

A 17-page government order, issued on 31 July and leaked to freedom of speech activists, listed offending sites and directed service providers to block access on the grounds of morality and decency. The 857-strong list included a number of comic sites. India's telecoms ministry ordered internet service providers to block access to 857 websites hosting pornographic content.

But not even the government could have predicted the scale and level of outrage that the order unleashed as Indians heaped criticism and scorn on the move. A week later, it's seemingly scaled down the directive. After outrage including reddit users, PMOMAIL, who is also an ardent Modi fan, has something interesting to say to the Prime Minister and wrote it in the form of an open letter.

How did Khandwa BJP MP Nandkumar Singh Chauhan forgotten that his own government has reversed the decision of banning 857 websites? If one go through the 'Game of troll' kings followers twitter account graduated from the Facebook and Whatsapp university can understand the level of culture understanding.

For better results, ban porn sites, ban alcohol and erase all the erotic porn images carved on the temples with immidiate effect. It is certainly beyond ones understanding why such filthy images openly portrayed free to watch at God's house where devotees of all the ages are visiting in millions...

Apart from that the rapist has to be given immidiate death penalty by enforcing fast track judiciary system.
