Mangalore: ‘Vishwas’ Rejoices with Senior Citizens on World Elders Day

Mangalore, Oct 1: World Elders Day was observed at 'Vishwas,' an organization that has been rendering yeoman's service towards the welfare and well-being of senior citizens in the city on Wednesday October 1.
 
The programme began with prayer song. About 50 senior citizens were present.  MSW student Niveditha was the compere of the programme.  Wilma, BSW student of St Aloysius College, welcomed the gathering and extended best wishes to all the elderly people on the occasion of World Elders Day.

Yenepoya Urban Health Centre general physician Dr Ramachandra Bhat was the chief guest. He addressed the elderly and gave them a few suggestions and messages.  This programme was followed by games based on singing talent.

A delicious lunch was sponsored by Radhika Koday, finance coordinator of Vishwas Trust. Vote of thanks was proposed by MSW student Basavraj from Meridian College, Jeppu.

    Today, the trend is for nuclear families for the young either to live separately or move out of the country in search of green pastures available in developed countries. As a result the elderly are left behind to mind themselves. In this scenario, it is advisable for senior citizens to form senior citizens groups/Associaktions and meet each other often to reduce boredom abd loneliness. The Vishwas in Mangalore are really doing a good work.

    we are proud and happy to see the good work that Vishwas is doing. They have looked after us now it is our turn to look after them. Eventhough we see the western concept catching up fast here in India, Mangalore all the same we have to be there for them. keep them in our hearts and prayers and sing the song You will never grow old while there is love in your heart.We are sorry that Dere and I were not able to attend the programme But you have all our full support and prayers as you race on with this great venture.
