Puttur, Jul 11: After a tree fell across the national highway 75 at Lavathadka near Periyashanthi on Shiradi Ghat stretch of national highway 75 on Tuesday July 10 evening, a vehicle in which assembly speaker, minister, and MLC were seated, could not move further. They had to take a detour.
To pay their last respects to former minister, B A Mohideen, who breathed his last on Tuesday, assembly speaker, Ramesh Kumar, minister, U T Khader, and MLC, Ivan D'Souza, were travelling to Mangaluru via Shiradi Ghat. As a tree fell across the highway at Lavathadka, the dignitaries were stranded on the road for some time. Later, they took a detour through kutcha road via Ichlampady. In the meanwhile, the forest department officials, in a swift operation, removed the tree.
At the same time, this incident has made it clear that Shiradi Ghat stretch of the national highway is open for dignitaries and not for common people, locals said expressing anger.
