Bengaluru, Jul 12: In an incident which came into the open with delay, corporator representing Thanisandra ward here, Mamatha, was attacked brutally by her own husband.

Mamatha, who suffered serious injuries, stands admitted into a private hospital here. Her husband, Venkatesh alias Palani has gone missing since she was beaten up.

On July 8, Venkatesh was severely thrashing his son, Vaishak, by way of punishment for going out to play. Mamatha intervened to protect her son from his cruel treatment. It is said that this gave rise to quarrel between the couple. Venkatesh, who grew angry, attacked his wife with an iron rod, and also kicked at her stomach. After Mamatha fell to the ground, he indiscriminately attacked her. In this respect, Mamatha has filed complaint in Kothanur police station. Venkatesh, who came to know that he would be behind the bars, has escaped. The police are now searching for him.

Mamatha and Venkatesh have often been involved with fight during the last three years. In a complaint filed in 2017 against Venkatesh, Mamatha had said that he had attacked her many a time. Venkatesh, a former rowdy sheeter in different police stations, faces several cases including murder, robbery and dacoity cases. He also faces the accusation of arranging dance by skimpily clad women during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations at Srirampura here in 2016.
