Udupi, Oct 2: Manipal Institute of Technology and Manipal University is organizing a three-day event ‘Model United Nations Summit Manipal-2007’ (MUN Manipal) from October 2 to 5.
Addressing the gathering after the inaugural ceremony here at Hotel Valley View here on Thursday, IGP (Western Range) Ashith Mohan Prasad opined that terrorism is breeding ever so strongly in India and every single day is the biggest challenge for the security cops to counter the onslaught of terrorist activities throughout the country. The home grown terrorists are the prey for all the terror acts poised by the big brains across the border. Unaffected ignorant are targeted at the mayhem of the terrorism, he added.
Stating that India can be clubbed with the neighboring countries like Afghan and Pakistan prone to terrorism, Mr Prasad informed that the recruitment and financial support for the terror activities is absolutely rampant. Financial support flows through fake currencies from across the border, jehad funds and hawala to these terror modules. Lack of monitory system to the finances has worsened the situation. Neutralization of terror activities is still at the end, he added.
He said that educated minds are becoming sick and are induced and misguided by imperialist force to perpetrate crime. They justify the crime in the name of religion.
Assessing the aftermath incidents of the recent Delhi bomb blasts and the confession of one of the accused that led to the exposure of terror connections in Udupi and Manipal, Mr Prasad informed that most of the accused involved in the blast were picked up from a small town Azamghad of Uttar Pradesh and were highly qualified. Some were MBA graduates and some technical graduates. These youths are susceptible to the inspiring words from the ill mannered people and believe that violence is justified when it has a purpose. Easy availability and distribution of SIM cards in India can be held responsible for easy networking of the terror activities and this has resulted as a big nuisance for the security in the country besides hacking of the mails, he added.
MUN Manipal is a simulation of five councils of the United Nations that is Security Council, General Assembly, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, UNESCO and ECOSOC and students from 80 colleges from different parts of the country are taking part in the Summit.
