Mangalore, Oct 10: All roads led to Kudroli where the nine-day Navaratri festivities came to an end on Thursday. Thousands of people watched the Mangalore Dasara spectacle.
Several attractive tableaux, some displaying mythological themes and some modern, topics, took part in the main procession which began from the Gokarnanatheshwara temple and culminated at Car Street. There were processions and car festivals at other temples too, including the Mangaladevi temple in Jeppu.
Hundreds of folk troupes danced and marched ahead of the deities in the processions. The garudi bombe troupes attracted the children while the attention of the young and the old was caught by the various dance troupes. The roads wore a splendorous look with special lights.
Police faced hardship in diverting the traffic to other roads as there was a huge rush of people on the roads through which the procession passed. People had gala time at their favourite “charmuri” stalls as children and women busied themselves in front of the shops selling fancy goods, footwear, toys and bangles. People were seen exchanging notes on the festivities.
Troupes of “tiger boys” exhibited their “tiger dance” in front of shops and houses, seeking donations from their owners. Some shops had displayed “no donation” boards.
A Dasara toy exhibition at Nellikai Raghavendra temple, almost on the lines of Mysore Dasara, was an added attraction, this time.
