Bengaluru, Jul 31: Veteran Congress leader and former minister Kagodu Thimmappa announced his retirement from active politics on Tuesday, July 31.
The 85-year-old leader, who lost in the recent assembly elections from his Sagar constituency in Shivamogga district, has also declared that he will not contest any elections in the future.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Thimmappa, who held the Revenue portfolio in the Siddaramaiah government, said that he would not contest elections anymore and wanted to spend time with family members.
He had also served as the Speaker of the legislative Assembly and Health and Family Welfare Minister in the S M Krishna government.
He was elected to the Assembly five times from Sagar constituency in Shivamogga district. He was defeated in the 2018 Assembly elections.
