Bengaluru: Couple fleeces family of ornaments worth Rs 1.35 cr in Puja guise - culprit held

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Aug 2: The Koramangala police have succeeded in arresting a man who had run away with gold and diamond ornaments. They have recovered ornaments weighing 3,750 grams worth Rs 1.35 crore and vehicles. The husband-wife duo had made the family believe that the head of the family was facing some imminent danger and that
offering puja to Baba by keeping ornaments before him during the worship would ward off the trouble.

The arrested accused happens to be Kiran Kumar (28) resident of Jakkasandra, Koramangala first block here. He is from Tamil Nadu and works as auto rickshaw driver. He had fallen in love with a lady named Reshma and married her. Reshma worked as domestic help in the house of Jayant from Koramangala. She was aware that Jayant is rich and his wife is devotionally inclined. She connived with her husband, and drew up a plan to deceive the house owner in the name of Baba.

When Jayant was away from home last month, Reshma told his wife that her husband was facing some kind of peril in near future and suggested to her to perform puja of Baba to ward off evil. For the puja, she collected some of the ornaments. After finding out the spot where the ornaments are kept, along with her husband, she stole the other ornaments. Jayant, who concluded that Reshma and her husband were the culprits, complained to Koramangala police station.

The police learnt that the couple had sold the stolen ornaments in Sai Gold Palace and some other jewellery shops in the city and acquired new ornaments. They also bought a Suzuki D'Zire car, and a Royal Enfield Bullet motor bike. They shifted residence to a prestigious extension of Koramangala where they leased a flat. Koramangala police, who arrested the accused, took into possession gold and diamond ornaments, 2.5 kg silver and bronze items, cash, Swift car and Bullet motor bike from their possession.

Under the guidance of city southeast deputy commissioner of police, Boralingaiah, and supervision of Madiwala subdivision assistant police commissioner, Sampath Kumar, an operation to nab the culprit was undertaken by a team led by police sub-inspector of Koramangala station, Manjunath. Police commissioner and additional police commissioner have praised the police team for their prompt action.
