Panaji, Oct 13: All the three accused arrested in Australian national murder case has said that they are falsely implicated in the case as the 65 year old suffered injuries after falling on his own.
John Kelly, an Australian national holidaying in Goa, had died on Wednesday almost ten hours after the alleged pub brawl at Calangute. Police have arrested three staffers - Jagat Pradhan, Manab Basak and Jaykrishna Das - in connection with the murder. Kelly died at Goa medical college and hospital due to internal bleeding.
The accused, who have moved for bail before the district judge today, have said that they had intimated police about the incident and also tried to lodge complaint about the incident.
"Two pub staffers were called by the police to the station who promptly reported there. They were made to sit for almost two hours and sent back without any statement or report," the bail petitions unanimously mentions.
They have said that the foreigner attempted to assault a cook with the knife and he was overpowered by a group of people and in the ensuing scuffle he fell down and he was disarmed.
"He was seen staggering out of the place and fell down at least twice due to his drunken state," the petition states.
In an interesting fact, the petition mentions that the foreigner after the alleged incident arrived at the pub sitting in the police jeep. The deputy superintendent of police Gundu Naik earlier had said that the police could not send the foreigner to medical check up as he vanished from the scene.
"He (Australian) came back about 10 minutes later seated in the police jeep with two police personnel and asked about his wallet which he said was missing," the application reads.
The bail application also mentions about the use of the knife by the police, which was ignored by police during the initial investigation.
The pub staff had located the knife after three days and handed over to the police.
