Panaji, Oct 15: Aires Rodrigues, speaker of a Goa–based NGO, Utt Goenkara and a lawyer and Prajal Sarkhardande, a history lecturer in a city college, were brutally assaulted by a unknown group of 6-8 people Monday October 13 evening in a restaurant.
Rodrigues was later immediately admitted to a city hospital and was operated as one of his fingers was injured.

The attack was targeted on Rodrigues because of his major involvement of exposing the case of minor girl whose mother, Fadela Fuchs had filed a complaint with the Calangute police station alleging sexual assault on her daughter by Rohit Monseratte, son of education minister Atanasio Monseratte.
Earlier Rodrigues held a press conference at his residence along with Fuchs on Sunday October 12 afternoon, alleging police inaction on her complaint since it was filed on October 2.
Aires Rodrigues and Prajal Sakhardande have always come forward to defend the victims, whether in terms of social issues, human rights and rule of law.
