Bengaluru: People campaign on Twitter for road connectivity to Mangaluru

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Aug 23: Natives of the coastal region working in the state capital have started a Twitter campaign highlighting the difficulty of road access to the coastal region and Bengaluru under the hashtag, #connectustomangalore.

The group has asked the concerned authority of the state government to assign at least one lane specifically for the buses for the uninterrupted journey between both the cities. The leader of this group is Gopal Pai Mani, who is a financial analyst by profession. As per the information given by Gopal, the group will be conducting a mass campaign on Friday, August 24.

Explaining the reason behind the campaign, Gopal Pai said, "The bus travel is hit hard because both the Shiradi and Sampaje Ghats are not accessible. All cannot afford air travel. That is why we are pleading with concerned authority to restore normal traffic on at least one of the passages,"

"We are very much aware of the landslides that have taken place in the district of Kodagu and do empathize with the administration in this time of difficulty. We have also done our bit to help the people of Kodagu. However, we want cost-effective travel between both cities to attend family functions or see our elderly parents who are suffering from ill-health. Most of the people travel regularly in this sector,"

Vijesh Shenoy, Nitin Bhandary, Siddharth Pai and other like-minded people are leading the campaign along with Gopal Pai. They have also formed a WhatsApp group for the same purpose which has 75 members already.

Continuing his statement stating the purpose Gopal Pai said, “We understand that the authorities concerned are working hard to restore the connectivity. The Twitter campaign intends to convey the hardships to them, including the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.”

"Since 2008 Shiradi Ghat was never in good condition and was getting closed for one or the other reason quite often," he added.

It is worst nightmare that Punjalkatte to Ujire road is so narrow, and in Guruvayankere the road is always blocked due to very narrow road

Since Shirady is blocked, traffic is routed through Charmady via Ujire, Guruvayankere and then BC Road

So many accidents take place in Guruvayankere, and even there is no drainage, as the road bit widened by acquiring existing drainage, resultantly the rain water gushing on the road, and whole dammar has wiped out during the recent torrential rains

MP speaks and assures 4 lane post general election (2020), but neither Belthangady current MLA or MP donot speak about the immediate widening of Ujire to Punjalkatte stretch

Strange but true, we all have to take up this cause very seriously.

It is highly unlikely for shiradi to return to normalcy for another 5 6 months. Apparently, it's not just landslides, but parts of roads are completely damaged.

Our MP’s and MLA’s of DK are useless. They are not for the people. The idea of tunnel was a great idea as there is no cutting of trees . Now machines are available where they can drill a tunnel without any difficulty. But this has to be given to the japenese who are expert in this field. Our ministers should have a look at the express highway connecting Pune to Mumbai. The project is under progress from BC road to Hassan. Instead of spending mine on the shakleshpur ghats they can carry the tunnel work nowitself.

If not PM who else ?? It's the Central Government's responsibility! It's the National Highway!

Are we not paying taxes which go directly to the Central Government's treasury?

Let the elected MP's answer it. PM has funds for statues and big time Bank defaulters but not for Non BJP ruled States.

Where was the thought of donation from wealthy people when there were protests from public for potholes etc? Don't be opportunist to play politics with opposition

Bhandarkar, if I am not mistaken Oscar was Union Transport Minister 5 years ago but definitely not 15 years ago. Yes I agree that Tunnel road idea was proposed by him about 7 years ago. When Gadkari took over I believe even he & our previous state PDW minister Mahadevappa met together & both of them agreed for a Tunnel road. Unfortunately even the Shiradi Ghat's 13 km road newly concretised by the present Union Transport ministry spending about rupees 100 Crore,is not in a motorable condition. Very sad situation. With a result yesterday I had to return back to Bangalore via Agumbe!

However talks like these since 15 years.
    All are to blame.
    Oscarji deserves an Oscar.
He said all this in a very distinguished forum with full gusto and as usual nothing
    happened.
    Very very casual attitudes.

Bhandarkar, From which source U got the information 15years ago? Who was the Union transport minister 15 years ago? Why the present minister failed to provide us a permanent solution to Shiradi ghat even after spending more than rupees 100 crore. Politicians take advantage because some of us praise the present govt, blaming the previous govt. At this rate we will never be able to get good roads from any polical party! As per as the Oscar is concerned both present & previous ministers deserve it.
