Govt Orders CoD Probe into Bangalore Church Attack

DHNS

Bangalore, Oct 22: The State government on Tuesday ordered Corps of Detectives (CoD) probe into the recent incident of fire in a church at Yadavanahalli, near Anekal.

Home Minister V S Acharya told reporters that the government  want to truth to come out.

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa had claimed that the incident happened due to short circuit, while the church authorities alleged that Bajarang Dal activists had attacked the place.

He said the COD would also probe the killing of alleged naxalites Boja Shetty and Suresh Shetty in shoot out at Hebri in Udupi district, in May 2008 and death of a farmer from a stray bullet near the police firing range in Hoskote.

The government has set up a special investigation team to re-investigate into the 2004 foodgrain diversion scam following a direction from the CJM. The Sessions court had rejected a CoD investigation report  and  ordered a CBI probe.  As the CBI expressed its inability to take up the case due to lack of resources, the court has now asked the government to conduct a fresh investigation, Acharya explained.

Thousands of tonnes of foodgrains meant to be distributed among the drought-hit people was found to be diverted to black market.

Security department

The government has constituted a separate Internal Security Department headed by senior police officer Neelam Achutha Rao in view of increased terror activities, Acharya said.

Besides, the State Security Commission under the chairmanship of the Home Minister will shortly be in place. Both the commission and the department will work in tandem to ensure security in the State.

TENSION IN BELGAUM

Belgaum, DHNS: Timely action by police prevented a major trouble in Shahapur suburban area of Belgaum city on Tuesday morning. Trouble began when one of the stones thrown by children at pigeons hit the windowpane of the church. Church authorities also ruled out the hand of anti-social elements.
