Mangaluru, Sep 30: As per some reliable sources, police have taken three persons into custody relating to the murder attempt case of Bajrang Dal leader Harish Shetty.
It is said that the police had interrogated many, but took three persons into custody. All these people are residents of Gurpur-Kaikamba, as per sources.
On Monday September 24, at about 8 pm, Harish Shetty (38) was moving near Ayesha Mosque when a gang of miscreants which came there in two motor bikes, began to swing their swords at him. As soon as he got alerted at the impending attack, Harish Shetty had bravely faced the attackers and succeeded in forcing them to beat a hasty retreat.
A sword held by one of the attackers had fallen to the ground in the melee. The attackers and Harish had jostled with each other for some time. During this period, Harish had suffered serious injuries to his hands and legs. The miscreants, who saw that a bus was approaching the spot, had sped towards Moodbidri, as per information.
The proceedings were recorded in the CCTVs installed in the mosque and a tyre shop located nearby. However, because of the poor quality of the CCTV, facial features could not be properly seen. Yet based on the investigations, the police have managed to interrogate many people but decided to take three persons into custody.
The police believe that the gang which targeted Harish Shetty would have arrived there with the clear aim of killing him.
It is suspected that the murder attempt was in retaliation for an assault incident that took place at Gantalkatte near Moodbidri earlier.
Bajpe police are investigating the case.
