Sullia: Model homes for Jodupala deluge victms, says minister Khader

Sullia, Sep 30: "Model homes are being built by the housing board for the victims of the recent flood that occurred at Jodupala and Monnangeri. Within 10 days the job of constructing these houses will get completed at two places in Madikeri," said minister U T Khader.

Khader was speaking to the scribes after visiting the areas of Kallugundi, Kodagu, and Sampaje that were affected in the recent natural calamity. He further said, "If this model of houses is okay to the victims, then the order is given to the housing board to build more houses of the same type by the chief minister and deputy chief minister of the state."

164 people still in relief centers

Giving details of the deluge victims, Khader said, "164 people belonging to 51 deluge affected families are still living in the relief centers. It is heard that some have faced injustice in the distribution of bus passes. I will set this right by speaking to the DC and KSRTC officials. The highway road in the stretch of Sampaje - Madikeri is completely damaged. Instructions are given to complete the highway work as soon as possible." The minister assured that the highway will be open to traffic by the end of September.

KPCC secretaries Venkappa Gowda, T M Shahid, Wakf board director Samshuddin, Rafiq Padu and Yousuf Anjikar were present.

Khader visits relief centers

When the minister approached the victims in the relief centers, they urged Khader to waive their loan made in cooperative societies and Dharmasthala village development scheme. Khader instructed the concerned officials to provide cooking gas to Kallugundi school relief center.

Prabhakar Bhat Lainkaje spoke on behalf of the victims at the Sampaje relief center and said, "We have lost our houses. We have come to know that the government has released a grant of Rs 50,000 each. However, we have not received the compensation. Permanent schemes have to be provided for us."

Replying to the grievances addressed by Prabhakar Bhat, minister Khader said, "I will take action about the waiver of loans made in the cooperative societies after discussing the same with concerned authorities. With regards to waiving the loans made at Dharmasthala village development scheme, I will speak to Dr Veerendra Heggade."
