Udupi, Sep 30: You might have heard of various bizarre competitions in the world. But this one is trendy and unique. Roopesh from Goliangadi near here is organising this never heard kind of competition. You have to simply throw any one or more of your used mobile as far as possible. The person, who throws his mobile phone the farthest, wins a brand new smartphone.

The competition will be held at the government pre-university college grounds near Goliangadi under the aegis of Goliangadi and Vandaru Mavinakatte Pragati Enterprises from 9 am to 5 pm on Sunday, October 7. Goliangadi is situated on the stretch of Hebri - Paladi - Kundapur road. It is just 12 km away from the famous Mandarti temple.

Rules and eligibility for the competition

According to the rules of the competition, anyone can compete without age or gender bar. The person has to throw the mobile as far as possible like one competes in shot put. One person can throw as many mobiles as possible. The only condition is that the phones once thrown will not be returned back to the thrower.

Prizes to grab

First prize would be a branded 4G smartphone and second prize will be an android mobile phone as per the information given by the organizers. The prizes will be given in the evening on the same day of the competition.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Roopesh Kumar, the organiser of this competition said, "Though this competition is organised for entertainment, the recycling of E-waste is the main hidden motto. One person in his lifetime uses at least four to five mobile phones. E-waste is generated because of this. This E-waste is a serious problem in developing countries. So I thought of starting mobile phone recycling. In addition, I have decided to open a huge mobile service and repair center. I am thinking of using the spare parts of these scrap mobiles in my business."

An elated Roopesh further said, "I expected people from our district to compete in this event. However, the news of this competition has gone viral on social sites and I am getting inquiries of the competition from faraway places like Mumbai and Delhi. I expect at least 500 people to take part in the competition. I am getting a huge response from districts like Dakshina Kannada, Haveri, Bellary, Chitradurga, Davangere, Hosadurga and Madikeri."

Confused whether its a promotion event or awareness event...
If its a recycle awareness event this game doesn't make sense. hope they hold other parallel events about safe disposal methods.

Whether Mr. Roopesh Kumar, the organiser of this competition , does not haveholds license issued by Pollution Control Board for recycling of e-waste. This is a pure commercial activity which may generate tremendous e-waste. Pollution Control Board authorities should to take cognizance and book the organisers under appropriate provisions of Karnataka Pollution Control Act for violations,if any.
