Mangaluru Oct 1: Vikas Group of Institutions will offer world's first-ever diploma programme in Hostel Management.

Addressing media here on Monday October 1, chairman of Vikas Education Trust, Krishna J Palemar, said," In a first of its kind initiative in the entire world, Mangaluru's well known Vikas Group of Institutions will introduce a one-year diploma programme in Hostel Management. Presently there is no other diploma or certificate programme for hostel wardens anywhere in the world and Vikas is the first institution in the world to offer such a course,”

"While planning this course, Vikas Group has kept in mind the fact that those appointed as wardens in hostels have, until now, never undergone any training in hostel management. They have not learnt the ways to deal with students who are away from their homes and who face teenage issues including depression, fear of failures etc,” he added.

"The move also comes in the backdrop of an alarming trend in the number of suicides among youngsters and the problem of drug abuse, social media addiction as well as an addiction of viewing sexually explicit contents online,” said Krishna J Palemar.

“Vikas Group recommends the government to create unique IDs for wardens in order to facilitate job openings and transfers and also to create a warden database of the state as well as country. The overall objective is the holistic development of wardens and also to help in creation of job as part of skill India initiative,” he informed.

"Vikas Group also plans to hold regular orientation camps to improve the overall efficiency of wardens and will host conclave of wardens at state and national level,” said Krishna J Palemar.

"Vikas Group also appeals to the state Governor honourable Vajubhai Vala, chief minister H D Kumaraswamy and education minister to take initiative to introduce such diploma programme in every district of the state. Vikas also plans to offer training to the trainers to conduct this diploma programme in other parts of the state and country,” he concluded.

Director Vikas Edu Solutions Dr Ananth Prabhu, Professor of Aquatic biology, college of fisheries Shivakumar Magada and Counsellor and dean Vikas Group of Institutions Dr Manjula Rao were present.
