Sullia, Oct 7: A person who tried to mislead the court by appearing in a case in the place of his elder brother on Friday October 5 was arrested.

The arrested accused, who was caught when he appeared in a case of fight between two groups, has been identified as Shariff from Shanthinagara, Savanoor. He was trying to claim himself to be his elder brother, Siddique.

The court here was hearing a case of fight between two mobs, which had happened at Savanoor Shanthinagara on June 11, 2017. In this case, accused, Siddique, Aries M, and Nawaz M were to appear in the court. It is gathered that Siddique returned to a foreign country to work there about six months ago.

The accused had appeared for hearing at 11 am on October 5. The presiding judge got suspicious about the appearance of Siddique. When questioned, Shariff insisted that he indeed was Siddique. The co-accused too supported him, duly asserting that he was Siddique.

The judge adjourned hearing to 3 pm the same day and asked the concerned to produce identity card to prove that he was Siddique, before giving the accused to the possession of the police. Shariff's father and brother appeared in the court, produced identity proof, and argued that he was Siddique. However, after comparing it with the details of Siddique on the records of the court and the identity proof provided in his name, it was found that Shariff was impersonating as Siddique.

Shariff, Aries M, Nawaz M, and Nazeer who furnished the false document, were arrested. The father of Shariff, Abdul Rahiman, too was taken into custody for questioning.
