Margao: Four Shops Catch Fire - Goods Worth Rs 25 Lac Gutted

Margao, Nov 7: In a major fire tragedy, goods worth Rs 25 lac were gutted after sudden fire broke out in four shops at Ponda on Friday November 7.

According to police, incident took place at Panditwado-Ponda.  After the shopkeepers closed their shops in the afternoon, around 2 pm, one of the shops caught fire which spread to the other shops immediately. Electronic gadgets, stationary items and other goods were reduced to ashes in the fire tragedy.

After the locals raised alarm, fire brigades were summoned from Ponda, Margao and Old Goa which immediately got into action and tried to extinguish fire. Though they could not do much, goods worth Rs 5 lac were saved from being reduced to ashes.

Korde Stationery shop, Anand Electrical, Aryadurga and ABT Parcel Services are among those caught fire.

Exact cause of the fire is to be ascertained but at the preliminary investigation police raised the doubts of short circuit.

Home minister and local MLA Ravi Naik visited the place and ordered concerned officers to look in the matter.

Ponda police are investigating the case.
