Pak channel goofs up, puts PM Imran Khan in begging instead of Beijing

New Delhi, Nov 6 (IT): Pakistan news channel's goof up has left social media in splits. Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) was airing a live broadcast of prime minister Imran Khan from Beijing when they accidentally spelt Beijing as "Begging".

Here's the funny thing, though.

Khan is on an official trip to China to secure financial support from Beijing for his cash-strapped country.

He was on Sunday addressing a ceremony at the Central Party School (of the Communist Party of China) in Beijing which was shown live by the Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) when the error happened.

The typo reportedly remained onscreen for a 20 seconds or so before it was rectified. The incident provoked all kinds of reactions from people on Twitter, from some calling the act "disgraceful" to others lauding PTV for becoming "drastically independent".

The video left many wondering whether it was intentional. The broadcaster later apologised via Twitter, calling the incident "regrettable". It called the issue as a "typographical error". "Strict action has been initiated under rules against concerned officials," it said.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Fawad Chaudhry has ordered an inquiry into the widely criticised dateline slug displayed by the PTV, The News reported.

During his visit, Prime Minister Khan held talks with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang mainly focussing on seeking China’s loans to tide over serious financial crisis faced by Pakistan.

China while stating that it would extend necessary support to Pakistan reportedly committed USD six billion funding but did not so far officially confirmed it.
