Ruwi: Mangalorean Community Win Runners up Trophy in the Cultural Fiesta Competition

Ruwi, (Muscat), Nov 16: The Mangalorean Community of Sts Peter and Paul Church, Ruwi won the first runners up trophy in the Cultural Fiesta 2008 competition held on November 14 at the church premises. It was truly a marvelous achievement by the Mangalorean Konkani speaking community of the Parish in the competition which was keenly contested by all the major communities of the parish.

In the neatly formulated presentation, the Mangaloreans of the parish proudly presented their ancestral tradition of growing paddy in the coastal Karnataka region. This tradition was perfectly presented in various stages of paddy cultivation with a profound meaning.   The true harvest time sentiments enthralled the audience and received great appreciation from judges too.



Main Coordinators of the Mangalorean presentation were Lancy Lobo and Shalet Noronha.  Deepak D’ Souza, dancing sensation of the Mangalorean community, directed the presentation.  Some of the well-known artistes of Muscat Konkani stage were involved in the presentation. They were  “Comedy King of Muscat” Walter Pinto,  Walter Mendonca, Flavia D’ Souza, Dilip Correa,  Victor Baptist Pais,   Sunil Lobo,  Melwyn D Souza,  Shalet Noronha,  Philomena Moras,  Leera Aranha, Nancy D Souza, Victoria Pais, Henry Mascarenhas, Benedicta Mascarenhas, Master Brantin Noronha, Master Vitales Pais, Master Dean D’ Souza and Master Lenvil Sequeira.

Mangaloreans also presented two enchanting brand new songs composed by eminent Konkani composer Apolinaris D’ Souza. It was presented by Dolphy Vaz, Lancy Sequeira, Jovita Sequeira, Lanisha Sequeira, Deborah Frank, Ivan Moras,  Anita Lobo and Apolinaris D'Souza. Both the songs were fully enjoyed by the audience.
 
Cultural Fiesta 2008 of the Sts Peter and Paul Church is a program designed to bring all the communities together in true Christian spirit and unity. It was the brain child of Fr. Raul Ramos, parish priest of the Ruwi Parish. It consists of three stages; first one was an inter-community dance competition held on 30th October 2008. Second,  the Inter-community Cultural competition  held on 14th November 2008. Finally, the community food festival will be held on 20th November 2008 from 6.00 p.m. onwards

Mangaloreans dancers under the leadership of Deepak D’Souza had won the second runners up trophy in the inter-community dance competition held on 30th October 2008. The artistes of this winning team were Deepak D Souza, Rouben Castelino, Reena Mathias, Melwyn Lobo, Melanie Crasta and Steffi Suares.
