Mangaluru: Sharlaine Sequeira's Bellyfit dance to make feel fabulous

Mangaluru Nov 10: You don’t need to get skinny, or trim your waist! Obsessing and worrying about size and weight steals one’s energy, saps joy and kills spirit. Why not join a holistic, body loving approach that replaces the message that "All women should aspire to one idealized body type" with, "All women deserve to feel fabulous in a body that is healthy, fit and free."

What is Bellyfit?

It is a trademarked, standardized holistic fitness system for women which is a workout designed by Alice Bracegirdle who is the CEO and co-founder of Bellyfit.

Within 60 minutes (40 minutes of stress reducing cardio comprising of dance aerobics inspired by belly dance, African dance and Bollywood, 10 minutes of full body toning and 10 minutes of relaxing stretches) the movements activate, heal and empower the uniqueness of the female body. Hips, belly, uterus, and pelvic floor are all honoured and strengthened.

Why Bellyfit?

Bellyfit is here to reclaim the word ‘belly’ as a beautiful, powerful, sensual aspect of woman- an aspect that should be loved, respected, strengthened and honoured for what it does and not for how it looks! It’s time to embrace our bodies and treat them with respect, kindness, compassion and love.

South India’s first Bellyfit instructor Sharlaine Sequeira who has conducted more than 15 demos all over the coastal city and reached out to more than 200 women in a span of one month, will conduct classes.

She recently conducted a demo in one of the world's largest sporting goods retailer-Decathlon (Mangaluru) for around 20 participants and women of all ages ranging from 10 years till 50 years.

Sharlaine Sequeira also travels to Bangalore to learn belly dance from Vaishnavi TN, founder of Ira Belly dance School. She conducts weekly belly dance classes at Hakuna Matata Club House.

"My mission is to spread the knowledge of both Bellyfit and belly dancing to many women as I can, both are completely different in their own way yet both very special to my heart" says Sharlaine. “Belly dancing is one of the oldest forms of dance, having roots in all ancient cultures from the orient to India to the middle-East. Probably the greatest misconception about belly dancing is that it is intended to entertain men.

This is absolutely false and it has numerous benefits. With regard to Bellyfit, all women deserve to feel fabulous in a body that is healthy, fit and free. We need to disrupt the way the mainstream fitness industry misrepresents, falsifies and limits the diversity and the natural beauty of the female body,” she adds.
