Mangalore: Budding Talents Galore at ‘Yuvatare’s Vicennial Celebrations

Mangalore, Dec 9: ‘Yuvatare’, the quarterly magazine of Young Christian students / Young students Movement (YCS/YSM) of Mangalore diocese has completed 20th year of its existence. On this occasion YCS/YSM, Mangalore diocese had organized ‘Chilipili – 2008’ a talent exposure programme on Sunday December 7 at 6 pm at Cordel hall, Kulshekar.
The programme began with the prayer dance by YSM members of MGC high school, Bondel. Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza of Mangalore presided over the function. Fr Franklin D’Souza, youth director of Karnataka Region, Raymond D’Cunha, editor of Pingara Kannada weekly, Fr Valerian Pinto, parish priest of Kulshekar church were the chief guests. Fr Ronald D’Souza, director of YCS/YSM of diocese Mangalore. Fr Herald Pereira, director YCS/YSM, Udupi zone, Richard Alvares, editor of `Yuvatare’, Darel D’Souza, president, YCS Mangalore diocese and. Mithun, YSM president were present on the dais.
Fr Ronald D’Souza, Director of YCS/YSM welcomed the gathering.
Raymond D’Cunha in his address motivated the youth to face the future boldly and to convert failures into success. He also mentioned the role of media in building a new society.
Fr Franklin congratulated the diocese of Mangalore for active role in the youth ministry in the region. He called for self-change through methodology of YCS/YSM. Fr Valerian, parish priest of Kulshekar, gave a call to take initiative in the field of literature
The president of the programme, Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza thanked all the previous directors of YCS/YSM and all the editors of `Yuvatare’ and appreciated their service. In his speech he said, “Yuvatare’, magazine has become a stage for the young students to exhibit their feelings and ideas, through stories, articles etc and has helped them to develop their personality.”
Richard Alvares, the editor presented the report of `Yuvatare’. Different literary competitions were conducted for members and animators on the occasion. The winners were honoured with prizes by Raymond D’Cunha, Fr Franklin and Fr Valerian Pinto.
Bishop released the special issue of `Yuvatare’. He honored the former editors and directors with a momento for their selfless service. Fr Herald Pereira, director YCS/YSM, Udupi zone thanked everyone for making Chilipili – 2008 a great success.
The Chilipili - 2008, the cultural evening drew all the audience to the happiest mood. The various units of YCS/YSM/CYB of diocese presented mind-blowing programmes which included live music with singing and dancing, theme songs and other cultural activities. All the people appreciated the young YCS musicians for their fabulous performance on the stage.
The songs sung during the programme were composed especially for Chilipili by Fr Alwyn Sequeira OCD, Br. Sunny OCD, Fr Francis Rodrigues, Fr Abel Lobo, Roshan Sequeira, Bajpe, Fr Antony George Pinto and Lloyd Rego. The efforts of the composers made this evening more meaningful one. In addition to this the talented singers of YCS/YSM/CYB exposed their talents.
This stage provided a break for new artists. More than 1,000 people witnessed this great cultural event. The members from all over Mangalore came under one roof and exhibited their talents. Darel D’Souza, president of YCS, Mangalore diocese thanked everybody who worked hard for the success of the programme.
