Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)
Udupi, Dec 12: Eric Soans from Barkur in the district is multi-faceted and multi-talented persona. He is a composer, singer and choir master par excellence. He is devout but simple human being, kind in words, deeds, voice and approach. He has carved out an identity of his own at the Barkur parish.
Soans has been known for soulful devotional songs and hymns. His writing has the sublimity and divine purity coming from a dedicated devotee. He has the capacity to allow smooth flow of what he visualizes into fluent Konkani. His compositions spanning over the last several years have received acclaim from the clergy and the laymen alike. Eric has the capacity to pen lyrics at short notice that enliven the occasions and many of his devotional songs are sung in neighbouring churches. In an environment like in the twin-districts where normally priests compose religious music and songs, Eric has created a niche for himself because of the divinity and pure love for the Lord that are evident in his songs. There has been a persistent demand for his Konkani hymns from not only locals but also Mangalorenan Kokani families settled elsewhere in the world.
Now, a CD comprising of 12 carefully selected hymns by Eric Soans is being brought out. A choir of talented singers from Barkur, fine orchestra under Gladson Raveendra with able support from sound engineer Rony, is on the job. The well known CAD Media studio in Mangalore will be bringing out the CD. The CD is scheduled to be released either on the Parish Feast Day of Barkur on December 17 or on the Christmas day by Bishop of Bellary diocese Fr Henry D'Souza.
