Udupi, Dec 13: Mangalore university deputy registrar Prabhakar Neermarga revealed, that preliminary preparations are under way for the setting up a post-graduate centre of the university in the city. He was speaking at the mass contact programme of the university, organized at MGM College here on Friday December 12.

He also added that career guidance centres will also be opened in taluk headquarters, for the benefit of students. A Yakshagana centre with an outlay of four crore rupees will also be set up at the University, in which other art forms too will be accommodated, he said.



University syndicate member P V Mohan informed, that various committees have already been set up by the University for holding cultural festival at the university level. The university is also contemplating to adopt several suggestions put forth by the general public, he revealed.

The suggestions that came up at the meeting included providing training to teachers, starting of need-based certificate courses through distance educational institutions, giving preference to patent-based education, implementation of semester system which is not credit-based etc.,

State College Principals Union president Prof Y Bhaskar Shetty, Manipal Academy administrative officer Dr H Shantaram, Prof K R Hande, Dr Uppangal Ram Bhat, Varadesh Hiregange and several others expressed their opinions and put forth suggestions.

MGM College principal Dr Jayprakash Mavinakuli welcomed.  Dean of science faculty of the University Prof K K Achar and Commerce dean Dr T M Sridhar were present.
