Mangalore: 'Carmel Day' Celebrated at Carmel Hill

Mangalore, Dec 13: The Carmelites Friars of the Infant Jesus Shrine, Carmel Hill, Mangalore organised their, '21st'Carmel Day'   at Carmel Hill, Bikarnakatte. "We should know the rights of the minorities to fight unitedly against the injustice," said Mariamma Thomas, the Corporator of Padua ward of the Mangalore City Corporation referring to the recent attacks on Christians.

Thomas was speaking as the Chief Guest. She appreciated the efforts made by the Priests and the religious in building the just society and also appealed to the gathering involve actively in the politics. Fr. Archibald Gonsalves OCD, Provincial of the Karnataka –Goa province was the president for the cultural evening. The Superior of the St.Joseph's Monastery, Fr. George Santhumayor welcomed the gathering and presented the report. Deac. Ivan D'souza introduced the guests.



















The different contributors for the drama were honored in the hands of the Provincial  Rev.Fr. Archibald Gonsalves. He also inaugurated the updated  Website (www.infantjesusmangalore.com) of the Infant Jesus Shrine of the Carmelites. Fr. Provincial also spoke on the occasion.

A Konkani Biblical light and sound drama based on the life of King David, "Tunch To Monis' was the highlight of the programme .The Drama is written by Joel Pereira and directed by Maxim Rodrigues. The lyric for the songs and music is provided by Fr. Alwyn Sequeira,OCD .Ben Electricals provided the lights where as the sound arrangement were made by Chris Electricals. The stage and the setting were made by Alwyn,Bajal.  The friars also presented a variety of cultural programme consists of dance, a group song and Yakshagana.





















Fr. Deep Fernandes proposed a vote of thanks. Br. Vinod Lobo and Br.Vijay D'Costa and Deac.Ivan D'souza compered the entire programme. Around three thousand audience gathered to witness the annual Cultural evening of the Carmelites.

    Congratulations to you Fr George and all the friars in Carmel Hill for the Carmel Day. I am sure the gathering went back home satisfied to the full. When I read the report and saw the beautiful photographs I was reminded of the Carmel day celebrations during our time years back. It helps to unite people and exhibit ones God given talents.
