Dubai, Dec 14: It was tasteful and trendy. It was uniquely creative. Famad Pernal celebrated their annual event ‘Sannam Maas 2008’ on Friday, 12 December with joyful exuberance and spirit of unity.
The main attraction was beautifully created festival stalls. ‘Pokri Pernal Youth Movement’ stall and a few other shops viz ‘Tundu Balle Sweet Stall’, ‘Kutty Ice cream Stall’, were the gorgeous replication of the festival shops for the parish feasts. People could be seen thoroughly enjoying these stalls; elders with some nostalgic moments of their childhood days of celebrating the parish feast and children getting a taste of such raw happiness. A few stalls had competitions and contests whereas some vendors sold fancy items. Some acted as ice cream vendors whereas some candle sellers were seen around the hall.
Another added attraction was the colourfully decorated hall with paper flags which created the right mood of ‘Saant Maari’. Balloons and glittering papers all over were extremely beautiful and creative.
The event was organized exclusively for parishioners and the Al Mas hall brimmed over with fun loving people. The event took-off with an introduction from Charles Mathias followed with prayer conducted by Juliana Correa. President Dony Correa welcomed the gathering and invited the committee members to the stage to witness yet another festive symbolic event of lighting candles to the Parish Patron Our Lady of Fatima. Some of the senior members offered welcome drink to all present. This followed a zonewise introduction session of all parishioners followed by felicitation to the ‘vaddeache gurkar’ or zonal leaders. Reginald Pereira Kamath was also honoured with ‘Festacho Patron’.
To mark the season of giving and sharing, Santa Claus was seen in the crowd distributing several gifts to the tiny tots. Cultural activities with some mind scintillating dances were presented during the event.
‘Sannam Maas 2008’ had a few more attractions to add flavour. Indeed the home made food prepared by some of the members was a great treat, along with scintillating music by ‘Rhythms’, the in-house music band along with their maestro Ketan D’souza. DJ Anil Cardoza rocked the dance floor with his foot tapping numbers leaving the crowd asking for more.
The post lunch session included hilarious contests and spot prizes. ‘Pick-and-act’, ‘Antakshari’, housie and novelty draw were held until evening. A non-stop baila by Rhythms concluded the day’s fun and frolic.
All credit must be given to Famad Pernal executive committee for organizing such a creative and fun-filled event which was unique to the city. Dony Correa, president of Famad Pernal expressed his happiness towards the success of the event and thanked all Pernalites for their continued support.
