Dubai, Dec 14: Daiji Dubai, the forum of konkani writers in the U A E has announced its literary award for the year 2009 along with the Yuva Puroskar. While Dolphy Cascia will get the prestigious award of Rs 50,000 along with a citation and certificate of honour, young playwright Nellu Permannur will get a cash prize of Rs 15,000 along with a plaque and a certificate.
The selection of celebrated Konkani novelist and eminent Konkani activist Dolphy Lobo was discussed and finalized based on the recommendations of the selection committee headed by Dayan D’souza at the general body meeting of Daiji Dubai at Golden Talents Music Centre, Karama, Dubai on Friday 12th December 2008.
Well known Konkani poet, humorist, lyricist, stage play writer and dramatist Nellu Permannur has been fervently selected for the award of prominent Daiji Dubai Yuva Puroskar. The selection was discussed and finalized based on the recommendations of the selection committee headed by Melvyn Rodrigues at the general body meeting on Friday 12th December 2008.
Dolphy Lobo:
Dolphy Lobo presently living in Vamanjoor was born & brought up in Cascia. He was born on 22nd July 1951 and had seen difficult times during his childhood. But the financial limitations were trounced by sheer will power, grit, talent and ambition. One of the finest Konkani romantic writers of our generation, Dolphy Lobo has written 43 novels, 35 stage plays, hundreds of poems, variety of articles on political-socio-economic topics and short stories above 300. Daiji Dubai recognizes his extensive service to the development of Konkani literature and language. Known as Dolphy Cascia on the literary front he is a man of multifaceted talent. A post graduation in the field of law signifies just the part of his standing and character. The master story teller has also touched the boundaries of being a successful actor, director, producer, radio artist, journalist, Editor and publisher.
His PUNOV publication has given over 100 novels to field of Konkani literature written by young and senior writers. He has managed Mithr weekly, Jhelo monthly and Kurov monthly as an Editor. Three of his novels have been awarded by Konkani Basha Mandal from Goa. His stage plays have won prizes on All India Level from Konkani Basha Mandal from Mumbai. Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy had honored him in the year 2000 for his service in the field of Konkani publication.
Nellu Permannur:
Nellu Permannur is indeed the brightest star in the horizon of Konkani stage play. In an age where stage play in Konkani field has been considered as thankless job, this young man has dedicated himself to uplift the dipping area of konkani theatre. All nine of his popular stage plays have been presented to the public with close to fifty shows, which have been written, acted, produced and directed by him. His poems and humor articles are regularly published by Konkani periodicals and websites. A collection of Konkani poems is already published and well appreciated by the critics. As a lyricist, Nellu has written over fifteen songs for his stage plays.
The high-status Daiji Dubai Literary Award 2009 and the Yuva Puroskar would be presented and conferred to Dolphy Cascia and Nellu Permannur during the decennial celebrations of Daiji Dubai in the month of April 2009.
