Mangalore, Dec 20: ‘Netravati-Phalguni’ Kambala, the traditional buffalo race, organized by the Pilikula Nisargadhama Society, was inaugurated at Pilikula on Saturday December 20.
Bharatlal Meena, former deputy commissioner (DC) and in-charge secretary of Dakshina Kannada flagged-off the kambala and said that a calendar should be brought out about Pilikula as a number of programmes have been organized here throughout the year. The calendar would help the tourists who wish to visit this place, he opined.
Appreciating the developments done in Pilikula over the last few years, he said that one can see here the real picture of a traditional Indian village.
M Maheshwar Rao, DC, K P Sucharita Shetty, president, Zilla Panchayat, Umesh, member, Moodushedde village Panchayat, Rajavarma Ballal, president, Canara Bus Owners' Association, Dr K V Rao and others were present on the occasion.
J R Lobo welcomed the gathering. Dr Vaman Nandavar proposed vote of thanks.
More than 70 pairs of buffaloes are expected to participate in the present edition of the kambala which would conclude on Sunday December 21.
