Dubai: Karnataka Sangha Annual Day—Mayura Award Conferred on Dr Yousuf

Sharjah, Dec 22: “Kannadiga expatriates serving in UAE have accorded me a grand welcome at par with traditional hospitality in Karnataka. If Kannadigas in their native land could follow the example of their counterparts in UAE, Ramarajya will prevail. Peace and happiness will reign in our families, organizations, and society,” said Krishna J Palemar, Dakshina Kannada district-in-charge minister.
He was the chief guest during the sixth annual day celebrations of Karnataka Sanghs held here on Sunday December 21, at Kohinoor auditorium, Mumbarak Centre.
The Mayura award was presented to Dr Yousuf by Karnataka Sangh president Prabhakar Ambalatere in the presence of dignitaries.
Dr Yousuf is a native of Dakshina Kannada district, Karnataka, serving with Metha Switzerland International since the past few decades. He has made significant contributions to Kannada, Tulu, Beary languages as well as culture and folk art. He is also the founder of Beary Cultural Forum UAE.
Philanthropist Mark Denis D'Souza, Karnataka Congress Minority cell secretary and social activist Mulky Noor Mohammed, former president B K Ganesh Rai, and secretary Raj Bekal were present on the dais.
Kannada Sangh activist Noel Almeida and hotelier Praveen Shetty were felicitated on the same occasion.
Mogaveer UAE L V Putran, Beary Cultural Forum Dr Mohammed Kaup and M E Malar, Billavas Dubai Satish Poojary, Vishwakarma Sangatane G K Rao, Karnataka Sangh Al-Ain Muruli, Dwani Pratistan Prakash Payyar, UAE Bunts Praveen Shetty, office-bearers of Margadarshi Sangatane, and other Indian expatriates’ organizations welcomed Palemar.
Veteran writer Irshad Moodbidri, Lokesh V Putran, Gulf Kannadiga honorary editor and Karnataka Sangh Dubai former president B G Mohandas, Kannada Koota UAE chief convener Arun Mutugadoor, entrepreneur Ashok Shetty, Karnataka Sangh Satish Venkataram, Manohar, and Sudhakar Thumbe, were present on the occasion.
Members of Kannada Sangh and their children staged a dance, fancy dress show, and Yakshagana Talamaddale as part of the cultural extravaganza held at 11.00 am on Sunday. A movie by Sampath Shetty received standing ovation at the cultural event.
