Mangalore, Dec 24: On the occasion of Christmas, 'Vishwas' organized a programme recently, at the Day Centre for the Elderly in Valencia. The programme began with the singing of Christmas carols. Assistant social worker Selma Fernandes, who was the master of the ceremony, welcomed the gathering and spoke about the significance of Christmas. It was followed by a Christmas message delivered by Prof Lidwin Lobo of BSW at St Aloysius College here, who is also an experienced social worker and a member of 'Vishwas'.
The next in the agenda was the ‘Kolata’ dance from the Day Centre members. Lavina Rego and Selma Fernandes, 'Vishwas' staff members, presented Konkani Goan cultural dance, along with the MSW students Krupal, Sendil Kumar and Wilma Albuqueque. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the performances. Traditional Indian crib and the X'Mas tree were put together by the 'Vishwas' staff Devadas Gojer.
Christmas celebration this time was a low-key affair, in the light of the recent terrorist attack in Mumbai. Condolence was offered to the affected families of this carnage. This was conducted by Kirthi Krishna, a student from SDM Law College and an active volunteer of Vishwas Trust. A vote of thanks was proposed by Felcy Pinto, secretary of 'Vishwas'. Traditional Kuswar and soft drink was served to all. A good number of elderly people attended this programme.
