Mangaluru, Jan 28: A group of about fifty people assaulted a driving school instructor and his wife besides damaging their car in an act of immoral rowdyism on Monday, January 28.
The incident happened in front of Natekal Kanachur hospital on Monday evening. Konaje police have arrested four people in this connection. Mudipu smart driving school instructor Thomas (45) was the victim of deadly assault.
When Thomas and his wife were driving the car, there was a woman belonging to a particular community in the car who had come to learn driving. A group who were eying on it intercepted the car in front of Natekal Kanachur hospital and smashed the car window by stone. They also assaulted Thomas and his wife. The onlookers said that the group consisted of about 50 people. It is alleged that the couple was assaulted because there was a woman in the car. The woman in the car is said to be the daughter of a panchayat member.
A tense situation prevailed in the vicinity after the incident. As police arrested four suspects who had participated in the assault there were heated arguments between local people and the police. People gathered in front of Konaje police station following the incident.
ACP Ramarao, Konaje police inspector Ravish Nayak and Ullal police inspector Gopikrisha who visited the spot are trying to bring the situation under control.
