- Plans are afoot to teach Bollywood ishtyle of dancing to school kids in London.
Mumbai, Jan 20: The initiative is being taken by Anupam Kher , who spearheads his acting school ‘Actor Prepares’ in West London. The actor has now come up with a scheme to encourage school kids to try out Bollywood dancing, a la ‘Jai Ho’ at the end of Slumdog Millionaire .
According to agency reports, teachers from 'Actor Prepares' have been visiting primary and secondary schools and running introductory dance sessions.
Kher, who is better known here for his roles in films such as Bride and Prejudice and Bend It Like Beckham , said: "Everybody wants to dance. You just need feet, that's all".
"The problem with modern society is that it curbs your inner feeling. The more sophisticated we become, the less we express ourselves. Bollywood dancing teaches you not to be shy," he said.
Kher said his sessions will be particularly valuable for schoolchildren, whose lives tend to be strictly regimented.
"Unfortunately, we compartmentalise children's lives. This is playtime, this is study time, this is bedtime, eating time. We are making them into the kind of people we think they should become.
"But this kind of initiative gives them an opportunity for self-expression. It lets them be themselves, and that's the most important part of education," Kher told 'The Times'.
Kher is a highly respected actor back in Mumbai and has given many award winning performances. He was last seen in A Wednesday.
