Bihar: Teacher attacked for not saying ‘Vande Mataram’ on Republic Day

Katihar, Feb 7 (ANI): A scuffle broke out between a teacher, who identifies himself as Afzal Hussain, and locals at a primary school in Abdullahpur on Wednesday after the former allegedly refused to say 'Vande Mataram' after flag-hoisting on the Republic Day (January 26).

The video of the incident has apparently gone viral on social media after which Hussain too stated that he had not said ‘Vande Mataram’ as the same is against his religious belief.

He said, "We believe in Allah and Vande Mataram is against our belief. The term means Vandana of Bharat Mata which is not what we believe in. Nowhere in the Constitution is it written that saying Vande Mataram is necessary. I could have lost my life.”

However, District Education Officer Dinesh Chandra Dev told the media that he has not received any complaint regarding the incident.

Furthermore, Dev asserted: “Had we got any such information, an investigation would have been done. But till now we have not got any such complaint.”

Those who want to kick the teacher out of our Country for not singing Vande Mataram, please answer- What if you were born in Pakistan and if you were forced to say La Ilaha Illallah as part of their national anthem? Is it anti national and sedation if you don't sing La Ilaha Illallah?

do you want to sing the national song or not?
We are not talking about RSS song here.
we are talking about the National song which is in the constitution way back before BJP or RSS was there in the picture.

    @Sam,

Why are you bringing BJp and RSs into this discussion? Just leave them aside.

Take it very clearly. Vande means bow/ prostrate. I bow/prostrate before no one other than Allah alone. Be it my Prophet ( Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon Him), or my mother or my father. And this is the belief of every Muslim. I think you got my answer.

Our constitution has given every person including you and me to follow and practice our religion. And it is a crime to FORCE him to make him follow other religions against his wish.

Would you like if some one forces you to say La Ilaha Illallah?. I won't like to force anyone to say La Ilaha Illallah. In fact I would be ashamed to do so.

One of the most touching rendition of Vande Matram, Maa Tujhe Salaam has come from none other than A.R. Rahman, the celebrated Indian music maestro.
A R Rehman is a Devout Muslim . And he is also a Devout Indian. and a great Musician.
    He has no problem.
But a few illiterate people do.

Who said you that he is a devoted Muslim? By having a Muslim name with no offering of Ibadah doesn't match the criteria of Muslim. If he was a devoted Muslim he would not have been in Music or Film industry.

Yes he is a noble soul with lot of respect to him, but doesn't mean being a noble soul is devoted to God

    @Irfan,

So A. R Rahman would decide about the religious inclination of each individual since he is great singer or music composer?
So what if some other singer gretaer than A R Rahman tells something else? Again change our religious inclination?

    You are mixing two things!
There is a difference between SALAM and VANDANA, salam is wishing peace or salamati, which every muslim does. VANDANA meaning "worship". Muslim worship only ONE GOD , they do not worship anyone other than their creator, not even parents.
That does not mean they do not love their country or parents, they respect and love the motherland.
But forcing them to utter " I bow down/worship motherland" is against our constitution as constitution gives right to preach, practice the religion they like.

In 1950 (after India's independence), the first two verses of the song were declared the "national song" of the Republic of India, distinct from the national anthem of India, Jana Gana Mana.
The first two verses of the song are an abstract reference to one's mother and motherland, they do not mention any Hindu deity by name, unlike later verses that compare certain qualities of thee country and mother to goddesses like Durga and Lakshmi.

It played a vital role in the Indian independence movement, first sung in a political context by Rabindranath Tagore at the 1896 session of the Indian National Congress.[10] It became a popular marching song for political activism and Indian freedom movement in 1905

people should know the history of our nation before commenting.

    Its in the constitution.

You want the government job. But dont want the national song?
    Good Logic?

dear Sam, why should we sing something under the pressure of sanghis. Vande Mataram is not our natinal anthem and its not mandatory for anyone to sing it.
Its also not mentioned in Constitution that if anyone not singing vande mataram should be declared as non indian. Try to understand my friend. You should not pressurize anyone to follow sanghis logic.
These sanghis never ever faught against british and their role in indian indenpence is big ZERO. Instead, these sanghis collaborated with british and spied for them. Our national anthem is Jana gana mana and none has objection to sing it. However, regarding vante mataram it is left to individual and Supreme court also has declared it. If you don't respect Supreme Court how come you consider yourself as Indian.

Ok. Then decide one thing which all of you will stand up for.
National anthem- some have problem standing in a theatre.
national song- some have problem singing it because of a religious reason.

But till then, we have to all follow the law enacted by the constitution.
Otherwise there will be anarchy in this country.

worship the Creator and not His creations.

India is Gods creation and no question of worshipping it but patriotism is a must and its right and duty of every citizen of this country to love it and die for it.

We muslims are not allowed to worship our own parents, our home or our land but we love them all and
    die for them.

We worship the creators and not creations.

You have misguided and misled, Your own scriptures call for the worship of the Creator but you know not.

Mr. Uttam Singh, Does kissing a stone is called worshiping? Can You prove that by any sensible logic here? By the way, You should also know that, Azaan, the call for prayer was given by Companion Bilal (r.a) by standing on Kaaba. So tell me, will any worshiper stand on something on which they worship?

Also, The Second Caliph of Islam Hazarth Ummar Bin Qhattab (r.a) once said, had my Prophet (pbuh) not kissed you (the stone) with love for being the stone from Paradise, I would have not kissed you either and you still remain the same a mere stone.

Muslim's face Kaba as a direction for worship, they kiss the stone out of love but not out of worship. Islam is the Religion of Monotheism not Polytheism. When you kiss your mother on forehead is out of love and respect but not out of Worship.

He is teacher, he teaches subject not any Religious verses.
Why should he be kicked? Why r u forcing to say which is strictly forbidden in Islam as Islam believes in Monotheism not Polytheism.

There is nothing called father land mother land or grandfather land. Worship the creator but not His creation.
We love and respect our country, which doesn't mean one has to equal any object equal to God.

It's absolutely unacceptable in front of Almighty that ur associating partner to Him. That's the belief of Islam and I hope people at least respect others belief and not force them to say something which is a grave sin considered in Islam.

Dear Dsouza, I think you are a bhakt of sanghis who collaborated with British and never ever fought for freedom.

Why some one is being forced to sing vande mataram which is not our national anthem. If you are singing it, none will stop you, but you have no right to force anyone to sing vande mataram and have no right to punish any one.

For you people, Godse is the Father and Gandhiji is anti national. You are respecting Hindu Maha sabha for its anti nationalism. They proved that they are against indian freedom by shotting paper cut of Mahatma. Were you also one of the trouble makers there. If you can kick out any out from India from not singing vande mataram, initiate it by kicking out Samad from Mangalore. Do you have the guts to do it.
