Hyderabad youth meets with accident after mobile phone explodes in pocket

Hyderabad, Mar 27: A youth from Hyderabad suffered grievous injuries on his head after he fell off his motorcycle following the explosion of his Oppo mobile phone.

Imran (25), a resident of Machabolaram had purchased Oppo A5 last week. On March 26, he was travelling to Bolaram area on his bike when the phone in his left trouser pocket exploded. As a result, Imran lost control of his bike and fell on the road injuring his head. He has sustained burns on his left thigh due to the explosion.

Imran was shifted to Cantonment Hospital for treatment and is said to be out of danger.

Bolaram inspector P Ramesh Reddy said that no case has been registered. “Imran has been advised to file a complaint at the consumer forum for justice, as it has been observed that the device had some defects,” he said.

Following the mishap, Oppo has released a media statement, "Consumer safety is of paramount importance to us, at OPPO. The occurrence of such an incident is very unfortunate and we are looking into it, on priority, with much seriousness. We deeply care for our user, and are providing all necessary assistance and support, to ensure his well being. As strict protocol, all our devices undergo thorough checks and we are committed to ensuring such accidents do not occur in future, by driving even more stringent processes."

This is not the first time such an incident is taking place. On February 24, Gunukula Naresh, 23, of Manneguda, Ibrahimpatnam was electrocuted when he tried to use his Oppo mobile phone which was being charged.
