Sangli, Mar 4: An extraordinary general body meeting of the Karnataka Tulunad Sangh, Sangli-Miraj, was held recently at Tulunad Cultural Building, here. The meeting was chaired by its president Adyar Mahabala Shetty.
Lions Club former district governor, youth leader, and social worker Divakar S Shetty was unanimously elected new president of managing committee.
Udupi Tulu Koota Jayakar Shetty, Surat Radhakrishna Shetty, Tulu Koota Kudla Damodar Nisarga, Kasargod B P Sheni, Moodbidri Chandrahas Devadiga, Badiadka Tulu Ayana Koota Rajesh Alva, Echilakaranji Dinesh Shetty and other office bearers were present on the dais.
Karnataka Tulunad Sangh co-founder Srinivas Mankude in his introductory speech explained the objectives of the Sangh as strengthening of Tulu Koota all over the country to give a boost to Tulu, Tulunadu art, literature, and culture.
Tulunad Sangh president Sitaram Bhat in his welcome address expressed the hope that the meeting will take significant decisions with representatives of Tulu Koota from the length and breadth of the country being present.
Harish Boloor, Jayakar Shetty Puttur, and V K Hebbar Bail called on the representatives of Tulu Koota to organize conventions all over the country to promote Tulu, its literature and culture.
Damodar Nisarga, Divakar Shetty, Ganesh Rai, and Gundibail Sadashiv Shetty acknowledged the yeomen service of Tulunadu natives settled across the country.
It was decided to urge the union government to include Tulu in the eighth volume of the Indian constitution, to urge the railways to name Poorna express as Tulunadu express, to form All India Tulu Okkoota, to name a street under Mangalore city corporation in honour of Tulu Koota founder S R Hegde and to introduce Tulu in the curriculum of primary schools in Tulunadu.
Srinivas Mankude congratulated the new office-bearers.
