Rs 135.41 cr seized in raid: TN Chief Electoral Officer

Chennai, Apr 16: TN Chief Electoral Officer declared that Rs 135.41 cr in cash has been seized in the state since the imposition of Model Code of Conduct.

Liquor worth Rs 37.42 lac, drugs and narcotics substances worth Rs 37.68 lac, 1022 kg gold, 645 kg silver, precious metals worth Rs 294.38 cr were also seized. On Tuesday, Supreme Court sought a response from EC over 'bribing of voters' in Tamil Nadu.

On April 13, EC had declared that unaccounted cash, gold and other valuable items worth Rs 552.23 crore was seized from Tamil Nadu since the Model Code of Conduct came into effect on March 10.

The first raid took place on April 2 and the poll flying squad seized Rs 6,65,000 cash without valid documents from a vehicle in Ramanathpuram.
