Modi remains unchallenged No. 1 choice to be PM: CVOTER-IANS tracker

New Delhi, Apr 24 (IANS): Narendra Modi continues to be the overwhelming first choice of the voters to become Prime Minister staying ahead of his distant rival Rahul Gandhi by leaps and bounds, according to the latest finding of the CVOTER-IANS tracker.

A tracking survey conducted on April 20 showed that Modi was way ahead of Rahul Gandhi by around 35 percentage points as the people's first choice for becoming the Prime Minister.

When asked who is the most suitable candidate to become the Prime Minister in a sample size of 11,838, a 56.43 per cent respondents said Narendra Modi. Rahul Gandhi was a distant second with 22 per cent votes.

Modi has been a clear choice for the Prime Minister well before the poll process began and continued to retain his unchallenged position even till the third round of polling.

The BJP leader's popularity had peaked in the first week of March crossing the 60 per cent mark and he continues to dominate the approval rating charts.

Rahul Gandhi's numbers have remained almost static as he has maintained his position of being a distant second.

No other leader received any significant traction from the voters.

In states like Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat, Modi was the first choice of over 70 per cent respondents.

Narendra Modi's popularity peaked on March 6 when 62.3 per cent respondents named him as the first choice to become PM.

On the other hand, Rahul Gandhi's best number was 26.04 per cent on January 1. Since then it has been on a constant decline as his approval ratings have shown no signs of improving till the third phase.

Branding is the buzz word these days. Why cricket and film celebrities needed to endorse a fantastic product paying in 10's of crores, if it is a very good product? Modi has been branded, Patangali has been branded, once branded it rarely goes through scrutiny.

It is great fun when BJP canvasing people come and tell you, look at Modi and vote. You ask them please tell what is he done for the country? Isn't he made it worse than what what it was in 2014? They shoot back, you know nothing and walk away.

If Modi has not improved anything for the country, I would not have bothered. It could happen with an apprentice. But, this apprentice has made farmers die of hunger, middle class pay through their nose, people who had jobs loose their jobs, institutions that preserved democratic foundations put some chamchas to run them with their loyalty to Modi rather than to country. End result, horrible mess.

If voter still vote for Modi it is their ignorance and lack of sincere love to the country.

With designer suits and branded dresses with frequent make up during the day no doubt Modi is leading but his track record of Governance is pathetic if not a Big Disaster for India. India is yearning for a change and earlier it will be the better. It will be good riddance for bad rubbish.

The Indian constitution does not have a notion of a "PM idol" for India.

It is the elected MPs that select a PM among them.

The current holder of the PM position probably has not read two pages the Indian constitution.

All that he does is put the cart before the horse. Thankfully non-Gujjus have different ideas now.

Yes, he could very well be the unchallenged candidate to be the P.M. This is an open secret and we don't have to rely on any tracker for that. The main reason for this is we don't have a capable contender to challenge him. That is a fact. It doesn't prove that Modi is doing all the right things and that his actions are liked by all and sundry.
This contest is like a fight between Dara Singh and some lean chap. The real fight will be when Dara Singh fights somewhere equally as strong as him. It is a pity and surprise that with a population of more than 125 crores, not one man has the capability, the oratory skills, craftiness and the guile of Modi. This does not augur well for India's democracy.
