Dubai, Mar 28: Curly haired Devdas Kapikad has come a long way from his earlier days in the tulu drama world. Hitting it big with super tulu hits like ‘Bale Chaa Parka’, ‘Gantetand’, ‘Eer Doora’ and so many others, Devdas was on stage with his 18 member troupe in Dubai to show off his already famous ‘Eer Undara’ and ‘Kebi Pithale’ on Friday at the Nashwan Hall.
Making his fourth trip to Dubai with his troupe, the sell out shows were a double delight for the audience who enjoyed every bit of the comedy fare that was dished out in the two plays. Leading from the front, Devdas who has now also entered the kannada filmland with his debut in a kannada movie called ‘Venkata in Sankata’ recently, showed his class and confidence as he went on to deliver one smashing dialogue after another which sent the crowd into a riot of laughter throughout. But it was not comedy alone since both the plays had a social message which was delivered with a great meaningful effect.
The evening began with the traditional lighting of the lamps followed by the honours for the sponsors. The first play, ‘Eer Undara’ was based on a daughter who is generally condemned by family members
for being a girl. Ultimately, she is the one who conquers the family honours after marriage when she gains confidence and support. There was non stop comedy with Devdas Kapikad coming out with instant and superb dialogues that captured the audience. Able support came from Bhojraj, Rama B.C. Rd., Monica and Sujatha apart from others. Every single actor on stage performed their respective roles fittingly and with fine grace.
The second play ‘Kebi Pithale’ too had a social message that concerned the parents as well gossip mongering. The effects of hearing jealous rumours and the critical aspect to destroy one’s name was nicely enacted punctuated with non stop comedy. Youngsters like Rahul, Karunakar and others tried to match their talent along with the veterans including Devdas Kapikad.

The tulu plays were organised by Karnoor Mohan Rai with huge support from Dubai’s Tulu Koota under the leadership of C.R.Shetty especially. The sold out shows bear testimony to the popularity of Devdas Kapikad’s plays which the holiday crowd thoroughly appreciated. The seasoned actors from Mangalore did not disappoint the audience at any time.
Devdas Kapikad has now set his eyes to be equally popular in the kannada film world just like his success on the tulu stage. Seeing the determination and dedication of the star from Mangalore, one has no doubt that Devdas Kapikad is destined to go a long away in the kannada cine world too.
Troupe convener and wife of Devdas Kapikad, Sharmila Kapikad, was all praise for the Dubai crowd who supported the tulu artistes and encouraged them to come and perform in Dubai for yet another time in style.
