Mangalore, Apr 8: The people of the district, who had been experiencing unbearable heat since the past few weeks, got some relief as the district got copious rains on the evening of Tuesday April 7.

Both Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts got good rains coupled with thunder and lightning on Tuesday.  Due to this, power supply to several regions was disrupted. Speeding gales raised concerns of danger for huts and temporary sheds in many villages. Beltangady town experienced hail storm.

Sullia, Suratkal, Panambur, Bykampady, Mulky, Hejmady Padubidri, Moodbidri, Karkala etc., received good rains. The city experienced moderate rain.

Heavy rain coupled with hails was experienced in Nellyadi, Kokkada etc. Minor incidents were reported from a few villages. Several rubber trees were uprooted in Kayartadka in Kalenja village. The roof sheets of some godowns and cowsheds also were reportedly blown away due to the speeding wind.

The people hope that the rains will appear regularly for a few more days and provide them with some succour from the scorching heat.
