Mangaluru, May 20: A progressive farmer, Rukkayya Moolya (96) from Pavanje near Haleangady, died after he was knocked down by a car on Sunday May 19. The accident happened on national highway 66 at Haleangady.
Moolya was crossing the highway in front of his house, when a car that was moving at high speed hit him hard. Rukkayya, who fell to the ground, was immediately taken to a private hospital located at nearby Mukka. The doctors said that he responded well to medications but suffered severe heart attack and breathed his last.
Rukkayya Moolya is survived by wife, four sons, and three daughters. A case about this accidental death was registered in the city (north) police station.
Rukkayya was a farmer to the core. He could not skip daily visits to his agricultural fields situated by the side of national highway regularly and he had made it a point to walk to his field everyday without fail. He was a popular progressive farmer, and had been felicitated and honoured by many local and international organizations. Even at this advanced age, his interest in farming had not waned. He lived a disciplined life.
