Bengaluru: IT engineer groom commits suicide on day of marriage

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Jun 7: A 24-year-old youth, engineer by profession who was working for a prestigious IT company of the city, killed himself just hours before getting his marriage registered allegedly due to the mental torture caused by his fiancée.

Dominic Rozariyo, a resident of Vasantnagar in the city is the unfortunate person who took his own life at around 11 am on Friday. He used to work for a prestigious company at its office at Marathahalli.

According to the information given by the police, the deceased was set to marry a girl at 3 pm on Friday. However, he committed suicide at 11 am when his parents were not at home. The parents of the deceased were shocked to see their son hanging from the ceiling of the house when they returned home.

According to the statement given by the father of the deceased, his son was under mental pressure. The girl, whom he was to marry that afternoon, had told him to kill himself if he does not marry her. As Dominic could not bear the torture, he killed himself.

The girl and the deceased are from the same area of the city and were in a relationship. However, there were differences between them. The girl filed a complaint with High Grounds police in the city. The couple agreed to compromise when they were called on the same issue to the police station. However, the girl raised a complaint against the deceased again in the month of April in which she accused Dominic was avoiding her and had changed his mobile number. She also said that he was having an affair with some other girl.

Dominic was called once again to the police station. He agreed to marry the girl, as she threatened to file a case of rape against him, if he did not marry her. Then both of them went to the sub-registrar's office in the city and their marriage was fixed to be held a month later on Friday. However, Dominic killed himself hours before getting his marriage registered.

A case in this regard stands registered in the High Grounds police station.

Looks like the girl is solely responsible for this death. She should be punished for her deeds. Youngsters now a days fall in love without thinking and end their life tragically when they feel there is no way out!

Shocking.A good educated young man commited suecide under pressure from Fiancee ?Is he not adult enough, educated, mature ,having relationship since sometime ,?How can one force a person to marry ?Even though he was in touch with girl since long,he must have realized that she is not meant for him, doesnt tally with each other and didnt want t marry? He must have told it and she didnt accept it.Now she can be happy ?that he suecided? He shouldnt have done suecide but steady enough to face her when he didnt want.Marraige is a life long (atleast for most of us)bond.sad.Poor boy.he should have gone to a counselling person.why didnt parents help him ?Heartfelt sympathy to the parents.May he rest in peace.

Right Rita... The day he committed suicide was the day of his marriage it seems... And marriage day parents went out it seems.. Marriage day only three members will present in the house whether it is court marriage or other marriage.. After coming back parents accuse the girl saying she was forcing etc etc. Then why didn't they complaint to the police station before hand that girl is forcing or blackmailing or whatever.. When girl has given complaint against the boy, boy too should have complained in the station with all the proofs how they are saying now... Surely, he too had misused her and once he got introduced to a new lady, started avoiding old one... Otherwise why he will commit suicide (?) when parents are aware of the fact?? When they cannot get along and adjust before marriage, why to get into a marriage by force?? Men judge only one sidedly..... Those who have hatred towards ladies please please keep away from them. Don't get tortured..

What a sad and painful end of a young aspiring life. Though it would have been difficult to live life with such girl he was to marry, he should have given a try instead of ending life abruptly. He chose to die once for and all instead of dieing every day in the hands of woman he was suppose to marry. RIP Dominic.

    Dear Dr. Kamatha,
indian law is discriminatory right from India got independence from Britain. Indian law favours women. I do agree that special provisions should be made for the women as per constitution but our founding fathers of indian constitution had not realized the power of women in the 21st century.
Even under the Indian penal code a woman cannnot be raped in India. There is nothing in our laws which penalizes women when they are forcing men to do something immoral to them.

A strong agitation is required as you said.

Indian penal code says women should not be raped... Right? But, raping of kids/infants/minors continuing without any fear. Raping women and murdering them also didn't stop even there is a law. Rapists are not given punishment and they are left out. Crimes against females are more than men.. You start agitation... It should begin with you.. Good luck

Taking into consideration the changing values in society, rape as a crime needs to be redefined. I think complaints of rape by live-in partners or by those in a relationship should not be considered as rape, since these tend to be consensual. These can be accepted as breach of trust or deception when the partner walks back on his promise of marriage. Only those sexual acts involving abduction and force should be deemed as rape.
