Mangalore: BJP's Ramachandra Kumpala Elected New President of Taluk Panchayat

Mangalore, May 21: BJP taluk panchayat member Ramachandra Kumpala from Someshwar II ward was elected as the president of Mangalore Taluk Panchayat (TP) with 18 votes while Congress candidate T Abdul Khader from Jokatte ward could muster a mere 17 votes, narrowly missing the bus, at the TP polls held here on Wednesday May 20.
JD (S) candidate Shriyala G Hegde from Padumarnadu was elected as the vice-president of the TP with 18 votes while Congress candidate Sujatha from Balkunje secured 17 votes.
The BJP has a strength of 15 members while the Congress Party has 16 members in the TP. Out of the four members of the JD (S), one had resigned earlier and the other three members supported the BJP. Out of the two CPI (M) members, one remained neutral while the other supported the Congress candidates.
