Bengaluru: Mayor pays fine for offering plastic-wrapped gift to CM

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Aug 4: The gift of a basketful of dry fruits wrapped in plastic to the new chief minister (CM) B S Yediyurappa given by Mayor of BBMP Gangambike Mallikarjun proved costly for her as she was made to pay a fine of Rs 500.

Gangambike had offered the gift to Yediyurappa on July 30. The mayor was trolled heavily by environmentalists and social media users for using the plastic wrap for the gift. As a rule, all kinds of plastics are banned in the state. The mayor had to face sharp criticism from people, who slammed her for not following the campaign that was launched by herself.

The mayor said that she was not aware as to who wrapped the dry fruit basket with a plastic. But she was courteous enough to accept her mistake and was ready to pay the fine also. Accordingly, she deposited the fine with one of the health inspectors of BBMP on Saturday, August 3 at Sampangiram Nagar sub-division.

Explaining the whole saga, mayor Gangambike Mallikarjun said, "My photograph of giving a dry fruit basket to CM B S Yediyurappa had gone viral on various social media. That is why I paid the fine for the mistake committed by me unknowingly. By paying the fine, I have set an example for other officials and citizens to follow. There will be a five-fold penalty for shopkeepers of the city if they do not abide by the law of not using plastic."

Here 100% mistake is of Yeddy. Why did he received the gift? That is also wrapped by plastic. Why there is ONE MAN SHOW going on in Karnataka? When he will appoint other ministers? Why people worshipping a CM who went to jail earlier?

Plastic Bags / Wrappers is a big nuisense & big blow for smooth flow of sewerage / water. Throughout India choking of drains due to plastic products deposited in the entry , exit points puts extra burden on Municipal Corporations, Panchayats, etc. for retrieval, cleaning etc. Governments should enforce rules , regulations strictly & ignore whether Ambanis are obstacles to this, as they manufacture raw material of all Grades.

These officials will give an easy answer that they were unaware or someone might have done it. But all officials are alert what is plastic product and which is non plastic during raids in shops.
It's not possible to ban plastic , because you cannot ask a ice cream wala bhaiya to give you a free steel spoon , or IRCTC wala khana vendor guy asking for steel spoon while eating palav or idli etc
We need to see how to recycle plastic spoons or items that are plastic. If im not mistaken there is a person who has researched and has proved by using Plastic waste that will construct best road.
Government needs to rectify . Because it's literally nonsense to impose fines on shopkeepers when people itself don't co-operate and plastic is not completely banned in our country by government itself.
